Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation today observed “Nirbhaya Chetna Week” to emphasize woman safety particularly in Public Transport. On this occasion, Nirbhaya’s parents addressed newly recruited trainees at Transport Nagar Metro Depot for creating awareness about safety of women, women rights and their empowerment in all spheres of life. An interactive train ride along with passengers was taken from Transport Nagar Metro Station to Charbagh Metro station as a part of awareness drive aimed at showcasing and providing the people of Lucknow a safe mode of transportation which caters to the needs of needy passengers, children, women, senior citizens and physically challenged. An interactive media session was also conducted to propagate the idea of safer travel for the women. The event proceeded with an interaction with Nirbhaya’s parents highlighting the ‘Nirbhaya Chetna Week’ and discussing women issues & similar safety concerns. A Nukkad Natak was also performed at the platform for passengershighlighting day to day crime against woman particularly at home. Through Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust, Nirbhaya’s parents are working in the field of emancipation of women and inculcating the idea of their immeasurable contribution in all walks of like.

On this occasion, an NGO“Red Brigade” along with Lucknow Metro organized full day event titled ‘Raat Ka Ujala’ by conducting self defense training sessions and confidence building exercise for the girls. A Nukkad Natak was also staged by the Red Brigade team which captivated and enthralled the audience. A cultural dance program was conducted by Ms Ankita Vajpayee, a world record holder of dance performance in water and her team at Charbagh Metro station symbolizing the women’s role, responsibility and importance in the society. The entire team of Red Brigade also took pride in enjoying the ride between Charbagh and Transport Nagar Metro stations while getting familiar with the security arrangements and facilities provided for the convenience of commuters.

Expressing his views on the occasion Shri Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, LMRC said,” Lucknow Metro is always dedicated to ensure a safe local travel for women. It is the need of the hour to sensitize the masses to care for the well being of women who are a inseparable party of our society and without them we can’t even imagine our existence and sustenance. He also highlighted the need for being more vigil and ready to assist all the person all the time.

At the end, total of 936 diyas were also lit at Charbagh Metro station to highlighting the total numbers of crimes against women per day across India.

LMRC had earlier organized a similar event earlier this week on 16th December, 2018 where more than 100 Women Police constables came together to commence ‘Nirbhaya Chetna Week’ to spread awareness on women safety. The different safety features for women incorporated in Lucknow Metro like Push Back Talk feature in Metro trains for taking to Train operator by passenger, continuous CCTV monitoring of stations & inside running trains were demonstrated.
